Interview with BALLGAG
Answers by Vernon Friday (BALLGAG's guitar/composer/back vocals)

Anna: Compare BALLGAG to an animal and give reasons as to why you chose that animal.
Vern: A Wolverine, it's a glutton, devours everything non-stop, flesh and bone, and then shits it back out. We take all of our interests in and Grind em together and spit it minute and a half bursts ha.

Anna: For those who haven't heard BALLGAG, what do you sound like?
Vern: shit in a blender. We've got pornogrind goin on. Thrash. Cbt chunkadelia. Catchy ass punk shit and as far as vocals I don't think they sound like anyone else's. Constant screaming, gurgling, crust vocals, going back and forth in a single breath. Like a thousand warriors ranting haha.

Anna: What things influence you guys?
Vern: alcohol mostly. Serial killers in awkward situations. Punk beats and catchy ass shit in general regardless of genre.

Anna: What awkward situation would you most dislike ballgag to be in?
Vern: We love being in awkward situations haha. So it don't matter. On tour we played a show in Tucson and there were two 8 year old boys that were goin crazy for us haha, until we played "triumph of the child molester"...

Anna: Haha cool kids!!! What was your favourite place on the tour? And do you have any more tours planned?
Vern: Def Tucson, Arizona. Was a DIY venue called 36 Chambers. It was an awesome place and it was packed.

The people in Tucson are cool as fuck too. We're planning to do another tour next summer. Gonna try and make it into Canada to and hit up Quebec.

Anna: You ever fancy makin it over here to Europe... maybe Asia, Australia?
Vern: Definitely! We had an offer for a support slot on the DEATHFEAST OPEN AIR in Germany but we can't afford the tickets. It's mainly a question of label support and knowing someone there. We don't know anyone that can help us out in Europe, Asia or wherever.

Anna: Are you signed to a label? Where can people buy your cds and merch?
Vern: No we aren't signed. We're going to be working with UKRAGH PRODUCTIONS (www.myspace.com/ukragh) from the Ukraine. Nothing official though. It's a brand new label but the two bands he's releasing this year are badass. So as of right now you can only buy merch and cds through me.

Anna: You recently did a competition for fans to be on your merch, tell us about that.
Vern: yeh. I usually do all the graphic design for Ballgag. Lately there's just not much time. I wanted a new design, and I figured itd be cool to get people involved. See what they came up with. We were looking for very dark compositions, with little to no nudity or gore. I'm more into psychological horror than straight up visual shock. Most of the entries were horrible though.

But there are a few decent ones. And I'm still waiting on two. Everybody wants to be on a t-shirt. So people got a kick out of it.

Anna: Good idea! Do people still have time to enter?
Vern: YES! Need more good entries! Its gonna end two weeks from today.

Anna: Have you got a new cd planned?
Vern: yes we do in fact. A few. A couple of splits with some Texas bands. And then a full length.

Split 7" w/ THE BLOODHORSE - Self Release
Split EP w/ LYSOL - Self Release
GRIME AGAINST HUMANITY - FULL LENGTH

I'm really excited about the new material as there will be more thrash/doom influence.

Anna: What do you reckon to us ladies into metal?
Vern: we need more! Not enough ladies listen to metal and it's depressing. Haha. And here in Texas we have a lot of monster size ladies that like the metal haha. Which is also depressing.

Anna: That's just a bad stereotype! So, Vern, when these new shirts are released will there be something for us ladies?
Vern: honestly I have no idea. Most likely not cause there really hasn't been that much of a demand from women. The more we get asked the more it's likely.

Anna: Get hassling them girls! Lastly, where can people check you out if they haven't already done so?
Vern: they can check out our self titled ep for free on www.screamalongrecords.com. Other than that; our myspace, mail order our cds, or come to a goddamned show!
